Kalmaegi lashed this island and brought heavy rains and strong winds to eastern, northern and central Taiwan. 6 people were killed and 6 others were washed away by rampaging waters. Television footage showed water pouring down and flooding a large area of southern Taiwan, Taichung included. On television I saw firefighters using ladders to rescue many people trapped in a flooded house and several drivers being rescued after hollering for help on top of their trucks in a flooded freeway in Taichung.:(
