Acid rain is caused by some gases which dissolve in the rainwater. In the first place, rain is already a little acidic by nature. However, the gases in the air may cause the rain to be more acidic than the normal range. These gases are caused by the burning of fuels in power stations and in motor vehicles.
Acid rain kills fish and it stops them from giving birth. What’s worse, the acid frees poisonous metals from rocks which prevent fish from breathing. Furthermore, the acid rain reacts with many nutrients needed by the trees and this prevents trees from growing properly. Then, the trees break down more easily, which seriously affects the food chain. Not only does acid rain affect nature, it also affects the buildings in city areas, since the acid rain eats away the materials buildings are made of. :(
