A magnitude 6.6 earthquake rattled Taiwan at 1:51 a.m. this Friday, shaking buildings and waking residents. The quake was felt for at least 30 seconds. According to Lu Pei-ling, deputy direct of the CWB Seismology Center, aftershocks as strong as magnitude 5.0 may occur in eastern Taiwan over the next week.
Earthquakes are common in Taiwan but do not often cause serious damage. The worst in recent years was in 1999, when at least 2,400 people died in a quake measuring 7.3 in Nantou County in central Taiwan.
Getting through 911 earthquake, I don’t have the fear of earthquake.[-X:>
