39.「你的弟兄若在你那裏漸漸窮乏,將自己賣給你,不可叫他像奴僕服事你。
「『If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to you, do not make them work as slaves.
40.他要在你那裏像雇工人和寄居的一樣,要服事你直到禧年。
They are to be treated as hired workers or temporary residents among you; they are to work for you until the Year of Jubilee.
41.到了禧年,他和他兒女要離開你,一同出去歸回本家,到他祖宗的地業那裏去。
Then they and their children are to be released, and they will go back to their own clans and to the property of their ancestors.
42.因為他們是我的僕人,是我從埃及地領出來的,不可賣為奴僕。
Because the Israelites are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt, they must not be sold as slaves.
43.不可嚴嚴地轄管他,只要敬畏你的 神。
Do not rule over them ruthlessly, but fear your God.
44.至於你的奴僕、婢女,可以從你四圍的國中買。
「『Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.
45.並且那寄居在你們中間的外人和他們的家屬,在你們地上所生的,你們也可以從其中買人;他們要作你們的產業。
You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.
46.你們要將他們遺留給你們的子孫為產業,要永遠從他們中間揀出奴僕;只是你們的弟兄以色列人,你們不可嚴嚴地轄管。
You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.
