This is one of my favorite songs. Don McLean always wanted to become a rock music singer when young. He must have had huge satisfaction after he completed writing this song.

The 1988 film "Mississippi Burning" is a good movie that is based on the 1964 murder event which McLean mentioned in the song when he wrote "I drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry".
