1) I like its orderliness, spaciousness, and pace of life. I like its education system, freedom of speech, people's friendliness and creativity, its diversity and way of life.
I may not like some of its government policies, but I like America. It's a land of inspiration and aspirations. It's part of me.
2) In most countries, no matter where one was born and brought up, once he has moved to another state or province for a few years, he becomes a resident of that state or province.
A New Yorker who's moved to and settled down in California would be a Californian.
Bush's father was born and brought up in New England states and only moved to Texas after he'd finished college and served in the Air Force during WW2. He then became a Texan. Texans have been proud of him since.
It makes sense.
So who are the Mainlanders in Taiwan? None. They're all Taiwanese.
