Nowadays young people in Taiwan listen to Asian singers and bands instead of US or UK ones like years ago. Though performers are different, the forms, styles, and spirit of what they perform are still Western, namely, rock, folk, hip hop, rap etc.
Until one has something his own, he probably wants to know a little more about where all this foreign stuff started, how it branched out and evolved.
There's something quite revealing in the jukebox music above: among the US Billboard #1 and #2 songs from 1950 to 1961, one sees the slow and gradual transition from the more traditional popular music to Rock n Roll, which marked the beginning of a new chapter in popular music that was the golden era of 60s and 70s.
