1)
We all know by now the so called information explosion has been more of a garbage explosion.
Wrong! A lot of people dont know that yet.
2)
But one could definitely argue that there has been a technology explosion: fax machine, walkman, cd, discman, dvd, microwave oven, pc, internet, cell phone, all the apple gadgets, on and on..., a long list of new tools.
But... as these wonderful inventions make it easier for us to get more things done faster and with less efforts, we all find ourselves even busier than before and having less time to relax and enjoy life.
Therefore the purpose of these new inventions have been defeated by how they are used. The tools are ok but the users have failed to see the big picture.
To be able to see the big picture, more education in humanities would be needed.
3)
My friend Shang who just retired after holding the same computer job for 30 years (nobody could replace him in the field he specialized in, in a fast and competitive technology environment) said, all programmers and software experts are stupid in that they only look at thigs from one angle: their own angle.
4)
Technology combined with narrow vision is a funny thing.
5)
Knowledge and information are fire that provides warmth and sheds light. To throw oneself into and get consumed by the fire instead would be silly.
